Green Sand Beach
Click here for photos from Kekahakai State Park, where we swam and snorkeled yesterday, and Green Sand Beach, where we hiked today.
This morning's weather forecast was a bit uncertain and there was a high wind advisory, so we drove down to South Point and hiked to Green Sand Beach - what's left of an ancient volcanic cinder cone. The sand has a green sheen thanks to olivine crystals left behind from past eruptions.
The 2.5 mile walk in was crazy windy but incredibly scenic, and the day itself proved to be sunny and warm, albeit with lots of downed trees on the drive south.
