Memorial Day Weekend on the Oregon Coast

Click here for photos from Memorial Day Weekend, which I spent visiting the kids in Oregon.  While the twins and I enjoyed a couple of days on the Oregon Coast (Gearhart, Astoria), Drew was recovering from Covid and had to keep some distance and Pat was solo-sailing on the Chesapeake.

Shout out to Grace's twin sisters, Ella and Amelia, pictured below, who graduated from high school last week. Congrats!

Happy Birthday Jake & Emily

Jake and Emily celebrated their 23rd birthdays last week, with a weekend filled with murder, mayhem, and twinergy.  Click here for photos from their murder mystery party and more. The album includes a couple of game nights, a birthday breakfast, and a beekeeping class.

Meanwhile out east, we sailed to Annapolis for the weekend, getting settled in just ahead of some rain and fog. Click here for photos.

A, B, (K)C... Aurora, Baltimore, Kansas City, and more

Click the links below for photos from a few recent trips - including a sailing weekend in Baltimore,  conference in Kansas City, Indiana visit to see family, hiking in the Wallowas, and more.  Pictured above is the day the kids' 3 jobs (Willamette Sailing Club - Wind and Oar - Girls Inc.) aligned, giving them the chance to work together on a youth program.

Baltimore - Photos include highlights from our tour of the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, where Pat's Uncle Dave has an arts studio, and a trip to the American Visionary Art Museum

Wallowas - Photos include highlights from a trip Drew and Grace made with Grace's mom to the Wallowa Mountains in Eastern Oregon, Jake and Elli's hike to Beacon Rock in the Columbia Gorge, and a picnic dinner at Portand's Mt. Tabor Park.

Aurora - The recent trip Emily and I made to Indiana was timed with cousin Kaylee's junior prom. We also got to meet Zoey, David and Judy's new puppy, try out cousin Alia's Oculus Rift, and check out Aurora's Great Crescent Brewing Company and Third & Main. Emily returned to Portland with some souvenirs for her brothers in the form of Aurora Lumber sweatshirts.

Kansas City - I also spent a few days last week in Kansas City, attending the 2022 NACCDO conference for cancer center fundraisers. Pictured above is the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which was near our hotel.

Happy Easter and Happy Birthday Pat

Click here for photos of our various April adventures. Here on the East Coast, we have been getting our boat ready for sailing season and settled in at a new marina on Maryland's Eastern Shore.  The sunset photo above was taken from our new slip at Worton Creek Marina.

Out on the West Coast, Jake has been building boats with the nonprofit, Wind and Oar, and spending time at the coast; Drew and Grace just won an Easter weekend regatta on Orcas Island; and Emily spent the holiday weekend in Bend.  She's also got a fun new Instagram channel - #thefaceineverything.

Portland had a very unexpected April snow storm and Philadelphia's weather has been like a yo-yo, but we're all hoping Spring might finally be here.  Pat's birthday is usually a good indicator.  Happy Birthday Lil' Ray.  Here is a throw back from a birthday-past (circa 2016).

And here is a video clip from an Easter-past (circa 2001), rediscovered when we did our VHS digitization project earlier this year.

Happy Birthday Drew

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DREW!  26 years... each one of them amazing! Click here for photos of how Drew celebrated the first year of his second quarter century.  We love you Big Son!

Cherry Blossoms and More

We made a trip to D.C. to see the Cherry Blossoms at peak bloom. Click here for photos.

While in D.C, we also visited the Smithsonian Museum of Art and National Portrait Gallery, the African American Museum of Art, the Futures exhibit at the Smithsonian Art & Industry Building, and more, including the #ifthenshecan exhibit of women in STEM pictured below.

March in Portland

We are just back from a few days in Portland to spend time with the kids, see friends, and celebrate Drew's birthday a couple of weeks early. Click here for photos, which include highlights from a trip to the Portland Art Museum to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit, some walks around the neighborhood, and a visit to Wind & Oar Boat School, where Jake is now working as an instructor and Americorp member.

As previous noted in our January Recap blog post, one of our winter projects here in Philadelphia has been to digitize lots of old family VHS tapes and photos.  Here are links to a few of the "through the years" photo albums we compiled:
