We started blogging in 2007 to document a year-long family sailing adventure. Upon returning to our home base in Portland, Oregon, in 2008, our adventures and blogging continued. Sri Lanka and Malta took center stage for our 2018-2020 adventures. We were bicoastal (OR and PA) for a while in 2020-2022, but as we look ahead to our 16th year of posts, we're together in Oregon once again.
We're just back from a few practically perfect days at the beach... sun, surf, and lots of summer fun with great friends who kindly shared their beach homes with us. (Thank you Tom, Megan, Lisa & their families!) There's just nothing better than a sunny summer day on the Oregon Coast!
We checked out the salmon run on the Nestucca River in Hebo and sand-boarded the dunes in Pacific City, then enjoyed kite-flying, ultimate frisbee, and all-manner of beach fun in Neskowin. Click here for photos, and here for more photos.
Yesterday the Willamette Sailing Club hosted a Wooden Boat Festival, complete with family dinghy-building workshop (Pat already checked that off his list a few years back, when we had a bigger dining room for him to claim as his workspace!)
While Drew was volunteering with the toy-boat building, the rest of us checked out the various activities and incredible handiwork on display.
As Jake & Pat will attest, it was a beautiful day to be on the water. Click here for photos.
Our first week back in Oregon has been a fun one. It included some of our favorite things about summer: Tuesday Night in the Park, Family Friday at the sailing club, berry-picking on Sauvie Island, and a lovely pot-luck/pool party with friends. Click here for photos.
The twins are volunteering again this summer at the library and Drew will once again be a coach in training at the sailing club.
No word yet as to exactly when Mermaid Beach will hit store shelves, but it should be soon. In the meantime, we highly recommend Rory's Story Cubes, one of our other favorite Gamewright games!
While we were in Florida in June, my cousin Kathleen and her husband Tom made a trip through Oregon. Check out their blog for some great photos of the Oregon Coast and their adventures along the way.
Happy 4th of July! Click here for photos of our day. Parade, picnic, egg toss, fireworks... thank you Ruthanne & Jeff for hosting us for such a fun day.
Click here to see photos from our final days of vacation. We had a great trip and will miss the warm water, sea life and many beach curiosities. But everyone is happy to be back home, especially in time for 4th of July holiday weekend.
