We started blogging in 2007 to document a year-long family sailing adventure. Upon returning to our home base in Portland, Oregon, in 2008, our adventures and blogging continued. Sri Lanka and Malta took center stage for our 2018-2020 adventures. We were bicoastal (OR and PA) for a while in 2020-2022, but as we look ahead to our 16th year of posts, we're together in Oregon once again.
This post is a bit out of order, but... on the first Sunday of our Spring Break week, Drew and Emily decided to make breakfast for everyone. They found a great recipe for cinnamon rolls and implemented it to perfection! Click here to watch them in action.
We celebrated his special day with our own Spring Break version of "Hood to Coast". Pat took they boys skiing midweek at both Timberline and Ski Bowl, then we all spent the weekend at the beach with friends.
Turned out half our neighborhood had decided Neskowin was the place to be! Our ultimate frisbee game had that fun, familiar "Tuesday in the Park" feel... making us all the more anxious for summer!
We spent day 2 of our Spring Break in Salem so that Drew and his friend Henry could be legislative pages. While they were hard at work, the rest of us explore the city. We started with a tower tour at the State Capital.
From there, we visited Mission Mill and the A.C. Gilbert Children's Museum, then wrapped up the day with a carousel ride on which Jake managed to grab the "gold ring"... make that 2 carousel rides! Click here for photos.
The spring sailing season is underway for Drew and his fellow high school sailing team members. So far the soggy weather hasn't dampened anyone's enthusiasm... still, a little sun would be nice!
If you'd like to view the kids' full performance, click here. The video runs about 7 minutes. To better understand what you are watching, the kids' challenge was called Triple Take Road Show. They had to tell the same story 3 times using 3 unique storytelling methods, depict 2 modes of transportation, and incorporate a technical spectacle into one of their "shows".
Jake got some new wheels... he's at 17.5 miles and counting, and he's had the bike less than 24 hours! Mild weather and a two-week biking unit in PE at school have helped motivate the twins (and Drew) to hit the road this weekend.
Jake also has been teaching us about natural selection, thanks to a simulation game they played in science class this week called the Monkey Game. Jake brought a copy home so we could try it out. He takes survival of the fittest very seriously! Here are some photos.
